London, 3 July 2012: Pop dance icon Jimmy Somerville has signed his publishing to BMG Chrysalis UK.
The agreement includes copyrights written over a near-30 year career with Bronski Beat, The Communards and latterly as a solo artist, together with rights to future compositions.
BMG Chrysalis Senior Director, Creative, Kate Sweetsur, said, “Jimmy Somerville occupies a unique place in British pop history, but his latest work shows that there’s a whole lot more still to come. “We are delighted to welcome his three decades of music to BMG Chrysalis UK.”
Somerville’s distinctive voice first hit the charts in 1984 with Bronski Beat’s ‘Smalltown Boy’, with its heartfelt lyric addressing the isolation and rejection felt by a provincial gay youth.
He made two albums with The Communards with a string of hits embracing Hi-NRG beats, moving ballads and a keen political sensibility.
Somerville has released five albums as a solo artist and sold over 7 million records worldwide over his long career. He returned to the public eye in 2011 with the first of a series of three EPs released through The Orchard.
His latest, Solent, a collection of glitzy electro-pop, was released on May 28 2012, featuring remixes from Fred Falke, Siriusmo, John Winfield and Felix Gauder,
Jimmy Somerville’s manager, Carol Crabtree of Solar Management, said, “This is an exciting new chapter in Jimmy’s career and we feel BMG Chrysalis is the perfect partner to support and develop this further.” Quelle: http://www.bmgchrysalis.com/
